In October 2021, within the framework of cooperation between the Kazakh Scientific Center of Dermatology and Infectious Diseases of the Ministry of Health of the Republic of Kazakhstan (KSCDIZ) and the Global Fund to Fight AIDS, Tuberculosis and Malaria, the laboratories of the AIDS centers are equipped with new automatic PCR equipment.

New equipment - ExiStation, manufactured by the well-known South Korean company Bioneer Corporation. Additionally, a one-year supply of HIV RNA quantification reagents (viral load measurement) will be supplied. Automation of quantitative PCR studies will allow standardizing the quality of medical services provided by the laboratories of regional AIDS centers.

- Providing quality treatment to people living with HIV is a priority task of the global strategy to counter HIV infection in Kazakhstan. The effectiveness of treatment improves health, allows not only a person with HIV to lead a full life, but also reduces the risk of transmission of infection to other people, - says Asylkhan Abishev, director of KSCDIZ.Employees of the KSCDIZ clinical diagnostic laboratory have already conducted training sessions on working with new equipment for specialists from Almaty, Zhambyl, Kyzylorda, Turkestan regional AIDS centers and the AIDS Center in Shymkent. In the near future, employees of other regional centers for the prevention and control of AIDS will be trained to work with the new equipment. Today the HIV epidemic in the Republic of Kazakhstan is at a concentrated stage. There are 28147 people living with HIV in Kazakhstan.
